Family Field Trips!
Treeside has started something unique this year - Family Field Trip Days. One Friday per month our school families are invited to attend a ‘family field trip’. We started with 2 options for our very first one: THE UTAH STATE FAIR, and a hike up MAPLE CANYON.
These field trips are optional (school is still in session for students who are not able or are not interested in going) and they include the WHOLE FAMILY! School representatives are on each field trip, however, families are responsible for their students.
This was a fun way for families to spend the day together learning! Can’t wait to see where our next adventure takes us!
Chickens in the Garden
We are excited to have chickens again at Treeside! Kindergarten teachers and their families helped clear a space and build a beautiful new coop for several new chickens!
We have also enjoyed watching our garden grow over the summer. The first week of school several people were able to enjoy fresh peaches and veggies! Thank you students and teachers for working hard in our garden and at our school to help all that visit flourish!
6th Grade VS. Teachers Tug-of-War
6th Grade put up a good fight this morning during the annual 6th grade vs teacher tug-of-war competition, but teachers won in the end!
Awakenings Festival & Farmers Market
On Saturday May 14, 2022 - We hosted our first annual Awakenings Festival! This included a farmers market-style shopping experience where students and their parents set up booths to sell beautiful hand-crafted items! We also had several free activities for everyone - flower crowns, face painting, etc. There was food, horse-back rides, bunny petting zoos, live music and student performances!
We love to see all the creativity of the teachers, staff, and families that come to our school! Thank you all for your participation! You made this festival so much fun!!
This was a great way to say farewell to this school year and send off our students to a great summer!
Making WAVES
Ms. R’s class is at it again today! Students in 4th grade have fun learning through creative projects such as this! They are learning about wave patterns by dropping (and throwing) different sized and shaped objects into a pool of water and comparing the wave patterns.
What we SEE, HEAR, FEEL & EXPERIENCE can inspire music in our lives
Joanne Rowland, director of education outreach with Bachauer (‘Music in our Schools’), along with BYU piano instructor, Jihea Hong-Park and student, Lauren Cain, filled the gym at Treeside Charter School with beautiful classical piano music on a Steinway grand piano from Daynes Music in Murray. Students were able to conduct, tap the rhythm and hum the melody as Ms. Hong-Park and Ms. Cain played several pieces of music. They told the students what inspired the composer of each piece and how the things that we see, hear, feel and experience can influence and inspire not just the musical aspect of their lives, but every aspect of their lives!
Thank you Ms. Rowland, Ms. Hong-Park, and Ms. Cain for coming to Treeside to share your beautiful talents and inspire our students to develop their own talents and dreams!
Springtime at Treeside
Springtime at Treeside looks like planting gardens, and cute baby bunnies!
Transfer of Energy & Mini Marshmallows
Fourth Graders learned about ‘transfer of energy’ in science class. To demonstrate this, students built catapults out of school supplies and launched mini marshmallows in the school’s orchard.
A bit of Shakespeare
BYU’s Young Company came to Treeside today for a condensed performance of “As You Like It” by William Shakespeare for our 4th - 6th grade classes. What a phenomenal cast! They had the students laughing and interacting with the performers throughout the play. Thank you for coming and sharing your talents!
Valentine’s Day Singing Gram
Treeside was sent a singing gram for Valentine’s day! We had the charming Cummins Crooners stop by to sing us all some love songs! Copy and Paste this link to your browser to watch them sing! https://fb.watch/bdb1oWZg9w/
6th Grade Greek Mythology Feast
After wrapping up their Greek Mythology unit, Ms. Brunson’s and Ms. Everett’s sixth grade classes celebrated with a Greek Feast! Togas and all!
100 days of school!
To celebrate the 100th day of school, Treeside Charter School students dressed the part! Except instead of 100 days, they dress as 100 years! This is a favorite day at Treeside - we played ‘old-timers’ music and had an ‘old-timers’ parade! Happy 100 days of school!
2nd Grade recorded 100 things they love!
Felt Animals
During one of the 2nd grade learning units, Ms. Aden’s classes were asked to choose an animal that they were interested in and study that animal, taking note of its characteristics (weight, size, texture, adaptations, etc.) then they designed and hand-stitched many of those characteristics onto their felt animal shape. They wrote about their animals and now use those animals as puppets in class to act out and invent stories with dissecting story elements such as character, theme, problem/solution, etc.
Kindergarten’s own Rube Goldberg Machine!
Kindergarten students in Ms. Holden’s class studied Rube Goldberg then used team work to build their own Rube Goldberg machine!
Snowmen At Night
Our students learned about shading & highlighting in art with the children’s book: Snowmen At Night.
Festival of Lights
Our kindergarten classes celebrated St. Lucia’s Day (a Scandinavian celebration) on December 13, 2021 with a traditional festival of lights walk around the school as they held their little lights, led by our very own ‘St. Lucia’ (Ms. Emma) who carried a tray of cookies.
The most wonderful time of the year!
During this time of year students at Treeside Charter School learn about and celebrate holidays from around the world - from the Christian manger and singing Christmas carols, creating ornaments from Mexico, lighting the menorah and eating latkes for Hanukkah, to setting up the Buddhist Bodhi Tree of enlightenment.
Treeside wishes you all a very happy holiday season!
Living Planet Aquarium comes to Treeside!
Second Grade students were thrilled to have a visit from some special critters from the Living Planet Aquarium today in their classrooms. They played games as they learned about habitats, conservation, and how our world works together to keep us clean and healthy and alive!
Thank you Living Planet Aquarium for making today a fun and memorable day for 2nd grade!
Native American Heritage Month
As November came to a close, students at Treeside Charter School had the opportunity to welcome a few local dancers to perform beautiful and moving dances from various tribes to commemorate the end of Native American Heritage Month. Treeside is very thankful to have so many incredible visitors come to our school!
The dances pictured: Women’s Fancy Shawl Dance & the crowd favorite - Hoop Dance.
